It all started with this super delicious smoothie place we found on the 5th floor or Da fu yen. Those delicious chocolate oreo delicacies became our addiction. We found ourselves there almost every day for a few weeks but I guess, like most things, we got sick of it and haven't gone for a while. Anyways the point of the story is that one day we met some non-chinese people there. That's always exciting because it's nice to see some diversity every once in a while. There was a girl of about 23, and her older brother age 37 I believe. HE spoke great english and she spoke very little. We asked her to teach us spanish and said we'll teach her english. She agreed, and thus I'll come home from china knowing, not chinese, but spanish. The brother was hilarious and teased us the whole time like an uncle would. He asked us our religion and was shocked to hear the answer, for one reason or another, and proceeded to tease us about how we don't party. We told him we were volunteers and he immediately shunned the idea and told us how the kids here are rich, next time we need to come and make money. It was pretty comical. They invited us for dinner on Halloween day and we graciously obliged. It was probably the most delicious meal ever complete with some delicious lemon cake concoction. We met his sweet chinese wife and his sweet mother and talked to them for a while after dinner. They wanted to go to karaoke but we were exhausted. He showed us some of his jewelry he makes and sells and we bought some of course because that's what we do. Anyways, it was a good time and I'm grateful to have met them! We've seriously met such awesome people here.
After church the other day, Kambrie and I were talking about how when china opens up to the gospel, there will be a flood of new members because of the sweet spirit of these people. They are nothing but good, (except for some of the obnoxious motor taxi men) and are so open to learning. Anyways, I'm excited for the day and hope the missionaries are led to my dear Peruvian friends.
