I might as well let you know what's been happening the last couple days. We started teaching yesterday! It was both better and worse than I expected if that's possible. It was a little more hectic than I thought, but I also did better than I thought I would. Some classes were great and some were full of devil's spawn. K that was mean, but there are definitely some trouble makers. But at the same time, they are sooo stinkin cute you can't be mad at them for long. Plus my first lesson wasn't the best, but now I kinda have a feel for what the kids like and can handle. Today was 10 times better I felt like. They were all very attentive the whole time and actually participated and listened well. I was so proud and wanted to just hug them all and eat them all up! :) There's a couple classes who have had english for a few semester and are sooo smart. Then there are a couple classes with younger kids who are here for their first time. The first day was more difficult because they don't know english hardly at all and don't understand the concept of repeating. Today I noticed they are picking it up sooo fast. They are a lot more moldable, whereas the older kids sometimes think they know and have heard everything already. Today I felt like I had everything under control and had all the kids engaged. They all come up to me throughout the day and say, "yummy treat?" It's so stinkin cute I could just die. They also have the hardest time saying my name and it's hilarious. We always say, "My name is teacher Andrea. Good morning teacher andrea!" Then they say, "Good morning teacher Andrea." But it usually comes out as, "Good morning teacher anninnaah.." or some other strange thing. Which I laugh to myself at every time. That's what alani used to call me because she couldn't say it either. Plus I've always seemed to have problems with it being at college. I feel like it's just kind of a hard name to remember. So good going parents. ;) just kidding it's a good name. It's actually my own fault for changing it from Brooke.
Anyways, moving on. The kids are so cute! Today we cut a bear shaped head out of bread and put honey on it and m&m's for eyes nose and mouth. It seemed to be pretty popular and I got them to talk a lot. It's really fun and today I just thought, wow I love this. It is very tiring though and I came home and passed out on my bed in my million degree room. There are still definitely some improvements to be made, like my last class where they buy prizes with tokens they earned, that's the most hectic thing I've ever seen. But my head teacher came and told me that I need to not stress about it so much because I'm doing really well and it shouldn't be as good as it is so early in the semester. She said it comes more naturally to me then most which was a nice compliment even if she was just being nice. Hmm, you think maybe I have a career in it? I sure hope so because that's the plan! :)
Well, So far the food is repulsive and I'm always hungry, the kids are the cutest little tikes I've ever seen, it's way too hot for comfort, and I love the girls I'm with. But amidst all this, I"m grateful to be here and I'm loving the crazy China life!
